Terence Crawford sits atop many lists in boxing – but who is your favourite fighter’s favourite fighter?
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska became a four-weight world champion this year, adding a super-welterweight title to his collection. He had been twice undisputed – only one of three fighters to do so in the four-belt era – and has statement wins over Errol Spence Jr, Shawn Porter and Jeff Horn.
Crawford’s all action, switch-hitting style has secured his place as one of the best of a generation and a favourite of many fans.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting, ‘Bud’ Crawford didn’t hesitate when asked to name his own favourite fighter of all time.
“Roy Jones Jr. In and out the ring. Him rapping. His excitement, being an entertainer. Me coming up [I was] watching him, analysing him. Just everything he did in the sport of boxing from the amateurs to the pro. Roy Jones Jr has always been my number one favourite fighter.”
Roy Jones Jr. was a fighting phenomenon, renowned for his speed, athleticism, and tricky style. He began his career with an Olympic silver medal in 1988, though controversially, and quickly rose in the professional ranks.
Dominating the middleweight, super middleweight, and light heavyweight divisions, he collected world titles and delivered highlight-reel knockouts before moving up to the heavyweight division, capturing the WBA title in a historic feat. It cemented his place as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters of all time.
Jones continued on past his prime, still delivering entertaining bouts but fighting markedly slower and less consistently. His record, last added to in 2023, stands at 66 wins from 76 fights with 47 early finishes.
