Terence Crawford has landed a fight against Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez after years of calling for it, though it won’t be next for the Mexican.

The two four-weight world champions are set to face off this September in Las Vegas as part of a Riyadh Season card. Crawford will sit out until the fight comes around, working in the gym on bulking up from his last fighting weight, 154 pounds, up to the super-middleweight limit of 168.

Canelo, on the other hand, will mark the start of a four-fight deal with the Saudi promotion in May when he faces IBF World Champion William Scull.

Cuba’s Scull picked up the vacant belt late last year when it was stripped from Canelo for failing to face him in a mandatory fight. The match-up was of no interest to Canelo at that stage, however now that Scull brings his old title to the table he has the chance to become a two-time undisputed champion in the division.

That prospect also excites Crawford, who expects all four belts to be on the line for his fight in September. He told his rival ‘good luck.’

“Good luck Canelo in your next fight. I’m looking forward to becoming a 3x Undisputed Champion.”

Scull is undefeated in 23 fights with nine early finishes and will be very much looking to spoil the party in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In his latest outing for the title, he outpointed Russia’s Vladimir Shishkin.

Should he fail to upset the odds, Crawford will have the opportunity not only to become a five-division champion, but three-weight undisputed – a feat not yet achieved by a male fighter in the four-belt era.
