Terence Crawford is set to make his debut in a fourth division and has grand plans should he win.

The 36-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska has already been world champion in three weight-classes, undisputed in two, and will step through the ropes against Israil Madrimov on August 3 to challenge for the WBA Super-Welterweight title.

If he wins, he has been clearly linked with two names – Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez and Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis.

Crawford is the one chasing the Canelo bout, and would move up a further two weight classes to make it happen with the 168lbs undisputed champion.

On the other hand, it’s Ennis who has been calling out Crawford. The current IBF Welterweight Champion is willing to join him at 154 if ‘Bud’s days at 147 are well and truly over.

Asked by Ariel Helwani on the MMA Hour which bout he would prefer, Crawford was clear in his choice.

“Where I’m at right now, I’m looking at the fight that makes the most sense and that’s not Boots. Canelo’s gonna bring way more to my legacy and way more to my bank account.

Because at the end of the day when boxing is done, what will we have? I would have a legacy that’s something people talk about for ages. And I would have a bank account that would last for ages as well.”

Canelo has so far dismissed the bout as not in his plans, claiming he would get no credit for beating the smaller man. However, Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh has given it his backing and has the funds to tempt most fighters.

The Mexican is expected out again in September, with Chris Eubank Jr and Edgar Berlanga frontrunners as his challenger.
