Some in the sport are convinced that Terence Crawford will hang up the gloves for good if he can’t land a fight against Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez.

Canelo is currently unified champion at super-middleweight and has dominated that division for some time. To make the fight, Crawford must pack on an extra 14 pounds from his last bout at super-welterweight.

Some think it is a step too far, but the switch-hitter from Omaha, Nebraska wants to chase greatness and believes it is the only fight left for his already stellar legacy.

He hasn’t ruled out retiring if the fight passes him by in the past, and big names in the sport including promoter Eddie Hearn and top trainer Robert Garcia believe we may never see him again if Alvarez turns the fight down.

Speaking to Box Nation, Crawford was asked directly if that was the case. He said no.

“I wouldn’t say that. Right now I’m just weighing up my options and looking for the best opportunities for Terence Crawford and my career.”

There are certainly entertaining match-ups to make at super-welterweight, particularly against the likes of Vergil Ortiz Jr and Sebastian Fundora.

That doesn’t take away from the fact that Crawford’s sights are firmly set on Canelo and ‘answering the questions’ the match-up poses.

“Well that’s why you watch it and see. That’s what everybody wants to see us fight for. There are questions that need to be answered. The only way they can be answered is if me and Canelo get in the ring and we fight. If that fight does happen, everything will be answered.”

Canelo has said he will be entertaining offers in January for his next fight.
