Former pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford has spoken out after he clashed with Teofimo Lopez Sr on Friday night.

‘Bud’ Crawford has been in New York City this week ahead of tonight’s world title showdown between his close friend Shakur Stevenson and WBO super-lightweight champion Teofimo Lopez.

The 38-year-old from Nebraska has been enjoying some downtime after it was announced that he had retired from professional boxing back in December, several months on from his monumental victory over Canelo Alvarez. He was, however, drawn into the fight week antics when Lopez Sr taunted him at the weigh in.

Speaking to the media ahead of The Ring Magazine awards, Crawford revealed that he told the champion’s father that he is a ‘clown.’

“No I just told him about himself, he know what I said. But he just got to stop being a clown, you know? Like, everybody not with the clown antics and things like that just because he wants to sell a fight. It’s cool to sell a fight but I’m not fighting. Leave me alone, I’m retired. You don’t got to make antics at me.”

Crawford and Stevenson have been close friends for a number of years and it is no secret that ‘Bud’ will be in attendance to support the unbeaten American star when he bids to become a four-weight world champion against Lopez at Madison Square Garden tonight.
