Terence Crawford has commented on the legacy of eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao.
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska appears to have entered the final chapter of what has been an incredible professional career, where he has won world titles across four weight classes as well as the undisputed championship in the super lightweight and welterweight divisions respectively.
It was confirmed earlier this year that ‘Bud’ will be locking horns with fellow pound-for-pound great and unified super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez, with the highly anticipated mega-fight expected to take place in Las Vegas this September pending an official announcement.
Another fighter who enjoyed an exceptional career of his own is Manny Pacquiao, who captured world titles in an unprecedented eight weight classes throughout his tenure, remaining the only fighter in boxing history to achieve this feat.
Despite his outstanding achievements, ‘Bud’ Crawford is not convinced that ‘Pac-Man’ should even be in discussions for being one of the greatest of all time.
In an interview with Pound4Pound, Crawford gave his reason for why he does not regarded the 46-year-old as one of the best to ever lace up the gloves.
“There is a reason why I don’t put him [Manny] up there. Manny is a generational, talented fighter, he’s accomplished what no other fighter will again, but I don’t feel like he did it on his own, that’s me personally. When Floyd [Mayweather] made it a point for him to do the blood test, he didn’t want to do the blood test, but then when he did do the blood test, he hasn’t got a knockout since.”
Pacquiao drew the curtain on his career in 2021, not long after he suffered defeat in the 72nd and final bout of his tenure against Yordenis Ugas. The 46-year-old from the Philippines appears to have left the door open for a return to the sport in the last couple of years however, although this is yet to come to fruition for ‘Pac-Man’.
