Terence Crawford and Shakur Stevenson have been close friends for a number of years.
They have had each other’s backs throughout their respective careers, with Crawford regularly seen at ringside whenever Stevenson is fighting and vice versa.
With that in mind, few will know Stevenson as well as ‘Bud’ does, and he has weighed in on who he feels will give Shakur his toughest test.
Stevenson is currently undefeated at 22-0, and is the reigning WBC lightweight champion, having already held world honours at featherweight and super-featherweight.
It was at super-featherweight where he has had his best success, unifying the division with wins over the likes of Jamel Herring and Oscar Valdez, but Stevenson has yet to set the world alight at 135lbs.
He won the vacant WBC lightweight title with a points win over Edwin De Los Santos last November, and followed that up with another points win in his first defence, this time over Artem Harutyunyan in July.
Many onlookers feel that the better the opposition, the better Stevenson will perform, and that may need to be the case if Crawford’s prediction for his toughest fight comes true, as he revealed that Gervonta Davis would be the most difficult opponent.
“One thing I can say about Tank is he’s smart. He can box, and he’s explosive. I see that being Shakur’s toughest fight, because of the power.”
Davis is the reigning WBA lightweight champion, with an undefeated record of 30-0, with an incredible 28 of those wins coming by knockout. A fight between ‘Tank’ and Stevenson would be a must-see, and Teddy Atlas has given his prediction for the potential bout.
