Terence Crawford has made it clear he’s only interested in the biggest fights possible before he hangs up the gloves.
The Omaha native secured his place in the history books last year when he defeated Errol Spence Jr with a career defining performance. That victory made him the first male fighter to be undisputed champion in two weight divisions since the start of the four belt era.
Such is the 37-year-old’s confidence in his abilities he has spent much of the last six months chasing a fight against super-middleweight ruler Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez. A fight against the Mexican star would represent a further two division weight jump, with many questioning if even Crawford’s skill and ability would be enough to counteract the natural size difference.
However, when speaking on the Earn Your Leisure podcast Crawford has total confidence in himself against any opponent, stating the only person who can defeat him is himself.
“My mindset is always, win at all costs. Make sure I’m coming in at 110% shape and prepared for whatever the opponent brings to the table. Make sure that I’m at the best of my abilities going into a fight so I don’t have to worry about anybody else.
A lot of people ask me ‘what have you got to do to win a fight’, and I always say, ‘just be myself’. I always say that because I obviously feel that I’m Terence Crawford and can’t nobody beat me unless I beat myself.”
Super-welterweight champion Sebastian Fundora was ordered to face Terence Crawford next, but ‘Bud’ has allowed the WBC and WBO champion to face former foe Spence first whilst maintaining his option to fight the winner.
