Terence Crawford has revealed his disappointment in the collapse of the Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez fight but has a new man in his sights.
Crawford had been chasing the super-middleweight champion since his legacy defining victory over Errol Spence Jr last year.
The man who was prepared to financially back the fight, Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh, recently made a u-turn and declared he was ‘no longer interested’ in making it happen, believing Canelo to be pricing himself out.
Reacting to that news on the Porter Way Podcast, Crawford admitted that the Mexican was his main motivator left in the sport.
“To be honest that [Canelo] fight was my motivation.”
Asked if he would consider retirement if he couldn’t land the mega-fight, ‘Bud’ didn’t rule it out.
“Man. It’s something to talk about. You know, there are things that we talk about. Right now I’m still doing what I do, Canelo has got a fight coming up so I never want to make it about me and Canelo.”
Crawford has already stated he won’t be moving back down to welterweight, so when asked who he could face next at 154, the 36-year-old was targeting one man – Sebastian Fundora.
“It would definitely be Fundora if him and Spence don’t fight. It would definitely be Fundora.”
Fundora became the WBC and WBO super-welterweight champion when he caused an upset against Tim Tszyu in March. A unification fight between the two would take Crawford one step closer to becoming the only man to be undisputed champion in three different weight-classes.
