Pound-for-pound superstar Terence Crawford is currently plotting his next move in the sport of boxing, having already achieved a Hall of Fame worthy campaign.
Crawford became the first male fighter in the modern era to win an undisputed championship in three separate divisions with that monumental victory over Alvarez, having already achieved this feat at super-lightweight and welterweight respectively.
With rumours already beginning to circulate about what could be next for ‘Bud’, the Omaha-native has now been urged to pursue a clash with former unified welterweight champion Jaron Ennis next.
Speaking on the Inside The Ring show, commentator and analyst Max Kellerman advised Crawford that he would be better off fighting ‘Boots’ Ennis now rather than wait until the younger man enters his prime years.
“If [Boots] blows himself up into the position where it makes sense for Crawford to fight him, at that point Crawford is 40 years old and Boots is in his prime… So let me tell you something wild right now, I think Crawford should fight him [Ennis] right now if he’s ever gonna fight him.
“If Crawford has it in his mind to fight Boots, you might as well do it now, what did Floyd Mayweather do with Canelo Alvarez? … He didn’t wait until he was super old and Canelo entered his prime, he got him [at the right time.]”
‘Boots’ made his much anticipated ring return last weekend as he stopped Uisma Lima in the opening round of their clash in Philadelphia, becoming the WBA interim super-welterweight champion in the process – his debut in the division.
The 28-year-old has been tipped to achieved great things within the sport over the next few years and could find himself on the verge of ascending to the top of the pound-for-pound rankings should he secure himself a clash with Crawford next. However, Crawford has made it clear that he will not be dropping back down to the 154lbs ranks, meaning Ennis would have to move up before even finding his feet at that weight.
