Terence Crawford is just months away from clashing with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in a mega-fight.
The 37-year-old from Omaha, Nebraska is bidding to become a five-division world champion against the Mexican superstar, who currently holds the unified WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight titles.
There have been concerns raised about Crawford having to make the significant jump in weight, after he seemingly underwhelmed in his performance against Israil Madrimov last time out, where he defeated the Uzbek via unanimous to capture the WBA light-middleweight title.
As he prepares for what is undoubtedly the toughest test of his glittering career, ‘Bud’ has revealed what the future may hold for him after he has shared the ring with Canelo later this year.
Speaking to Club Shay Shay, Crawford outlined his plans for the period that will follow his mega-fight with Canelo, as he admits it will be hard for him to move back down in weight after going to 168.
“I can’t make 147 anyway, hell nah it’s over. Man we’re gonna go to 168, I ain’t thinking about nothing but 168.”
‘Bud’ was then asked if he is likely to walk away from the sport after his clash with the Mexican great but revealed he could be tempted by a rematch.
“I don’t know, I can’t say that. I don’t know, that’s what I’m saying. We might do a rematch you never know.”
The 37-year-old switch hitter will have his eyes on Canelo’s upcoming showdown with IBf super-middleweight champion William Scull, who he faces in Riyadh on May 3.
Victory over Scull would see Canelo regain the undisputed championship at 168lbs, which will present Crawford with the opportunity of becoming the very first 3-time undisputed champion in boxing history.
