Not everyone is a huge fan of decorated British heavyweight boxers Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury.
Although these two fighters have never met in the ring, they have both long been at the top of their division. Joshua managed to become a unified champion when he turned professional soon after winning a gold medal at the Olympic Games in London.
His biggest wins came against the likes of Wladimir Klitschko, Joseph Parker and Dillian Whyte, though back-to-back losses to Oleksandr Usyk in 2021 and 2022 left him without any titles. His recent attempt to win one back in a fight with Daniel Dubois saw him knocked out in the fifth round.
Fury also beat Klitschko in a famous fight that saw him lift his first world titles. After time away from the ring, he returned and collected the WBC belt in an epic trilogy with Deontay Wilder, drawing one fight and winning the next two by stoppage.
Most recently, he too took a loss to Usyk in their undisputed contest back in May, and now rematches the great Ukrainian for three of the four major world titles.
Former three-weight world champion James Toney has been talking to the WiseNuts channel and got onto the subject of British fighters.
“If you’re from England, you can’t fight.”
He was then asked about both Joshua and Fury and stayed firm.
“Can’t Fight. I had high hopes for Joshua but after Ruiz did him, he messed him up.”
Toney is well known for his unfiltered takes on the current landscape in the sport. He rose to prominence in the nineties and would capture world titles at middleweight, super middleweight, and cruiserweight.
The American’s signature shoulder roll defence and natural talent made him a tough night’s work for anyone, and he engaged in memorable fights against the likes of Michael Nunn, Iran Barkley, and Roy Jones Jr.
