Tyson Fury suffered back-to-back losses for the first time in his career when he failed to beat Oleksandr Usyk in their rematch on December 21.
The first match in May saw Usyk get his hand raised to become the undisputed heavyweight champion. The rematch went the same way, this time with all three cards in the great Ukrainian’s favour.
Speaking to Seconds Out about the fight, former three-weight world champion Duke McKenzie first started with lots of praise for Usyk’s performance against Fury.
“Four stone in weight, you’ve got no idea how hard that is, how much it takes out of you when you fight someone that has got that kind of weight advantage. I’ve only sparred men that are a stone, maybe two stone heavier than me and that drains you.
“It saps your energy and strength and when you’ve got to do that for 12 rounds and be on your guard and don’t get drawn in or tired that’s a testament to Usyk’s real stamina and commitment to the sport of boxing. He eats it, sleeps it walks it and talks it.”
He then suggested it is time for Fury to hang up his gloves after all he has achieved.
“There is no need for a rematch. Tyson Fury should just retire. He’s got nothing more to prove, he’s been heavyweight champion of the world, can’t ask for more than that, and he’s got more money than he can spend.
“He runs the risk now of one or two of the other heavyweights now that should retire that probably won’t. I’d like to see him retire.”
