Three Weight World Champion Says He Will Unretire At 57 For The Right Price

A three-weight world champion has revealed that he would make a sensational return to boxing for ‘the right price’.

It has been just under nine years since three-weight world champion James Toney fought as a professional, but the 57-year-old from Michigan has left the door open for a shock return to the sport ever since.

During his illustrious career, Toney claimed world honours at middleweight, super middleweight and cruiserweight after wins over the likes of Iran Barkley and Mike McCallum, and also won a world heavyweight title, only for the result to be overturned due to a failed drugs test.

Toney did make a brief return to action against Donovan ‘Razor’ Ruddock in November of 2023, facing the retired heavyweight in a six round exhibition clash at the National Indoor Sports Centre in Kingston, Jamaica.

Speaking to ESNEWS recently, Toney revealed that he would be interested in making a comeback to boxing for ‘the right price’ as he claims he would fight ‘anybody, anywhere’.

“If the price is right. I will fight anybody, anywhere. Anywhere, anytime. But just quit being scared, I’m 57-years-old, I’ll still knock your ass out. We do an exhibition, we do a real fight. I don’t care, however you want to do it.”

Should he decide to make a return to the sport, Toney would become the latest high-profile fighter to come out of retirement, such as former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who put an end to a near 20-year hiatus in November 2024 when he faced Jake Paul in Texas.
