Gervonta Davis reminded fans and rivals of just how explosive he can be when he stopped Frank Martin in eight this month.
It marked a return from a 14-month lay-off for the Baltimore boxer, having previously defeated Ryan Garcia in 2023 but forced to stay out of the ring due to legal issues thereafter.
Now WBA Lightweight World Champion, his run got off to a good start by knocking out previously undefeated Frank Martin in devastating fashion.
There are unifications on the table for Davis, particularly one against recently-crowned IBF Champion Vasiliy Lomachenko. It’s one of two fights Hall of Famer Tim Bradley wants to see, the other being against WBC Champ Shakur Stevenson.
Bradley told Fight Hub TV that he wasn’t surprised ‘Tank’ expressed no interest in the Stevenson fight, saying it was a ‘cop out’ because of how tough it would be.
“That’s a cop out. Let’s keep it a buck, that’s a cop out. Of course he gonna say that, because he don’t wanna have to chase that nightmare around. Shakur’s gonna be there, then not gonna be there. That’s Shakur. He’s gonna come in and out.
Shakur fights in straight lines. His feet are so damn good, he controls distance so damn well. Tank got short, littly bitty arms, it’s gonna be hard to reach him. You gonna have to land on that moving target. Shakur is brilliant at that, man. I don’t think Shakur’s gonna stand and trade with him at all. It’ll be one, two shots and get the hell out.
Call it a boring fight, call it whatever you want. I’mma tell you right now I got Shakur winning the fight.”
Team Davis is reportedly set to enter talks with Top Rank to face Lomachenko later this year. He has assured fans Stevenson is on his list too.
