Andy Ruiz Jr returns to the ring almost two years on from his last fight to face controversial heavyweight Jarrell Miller.
The two are linked in the sport through Anthony Joshua, with Miller being scheduled to face him back in 2019 but being pulled from the contest due to failed doping tests. Ruiz would step in and shock the world, winning the unified heavyweight titles.
The Mexican-American lost in the immediate rematch and has only had sporadic action since, beating Chris Arreola and Luis Ortiz but sitting out more recently due to shoulder surgery.
Miller is coming off a stoppage loss to Daniel Dubois and needs a top-level win to back his impressive trash talk. It is, most will agree, a must-win for both should they want the top dogs anytime soon.
Breaking down the fight on Pro Box TV, Hall of Fame fighter Tim Bradley said that it should not be competitive.
“Miller fat and lazy, man. Fat and lazy, bruh. Come on, he lost to Dubois bro. If Ruiz don’t slap him around and beat the crap out of him and damn near stop him, it’s gonna be a problem for Ruiz. And I know he’s been inactive or whatever but he’s just the better skilled fighter here.
Those quick hands and that power that he possesses, he knows how to get himself into position to be able to land. Miller is what he is. He’s just a guy in there. He’s gonna try to win but I don’t think he’s gonna beat an Andy Ruiz. This might be the end of the road for him. He’s just gonna be a stepping stone fighter for various heavyweights out there.”
Ruiz-Miller is part of a fantastic Riyadh Season Card in Los Angeles on August 3 topped by Terence Crawford’s super-welterweight debut against WBA Champion Israil Madrimov.
