Tim Bradley Says Only One Fighter Gives Canelo Problems Other Than Bivol – And It’s Not Benavidez

Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez has lost just twice in 65 professional contests since turning pro as a teenager.

One of them came early in his career against the much more experienced Floyd Mayweather, who no one ever managed to beat.

The other came when stepping up to light heavyweight to take on Dmitry Bivol in 2022, losing on points again.

Outside of those contests, Canelo has rarely looked in trouble and is yet to be put down in any fight. Next time out in September he takes on Edgar Berlanga to defend his unified super middleweight status, though many people want him to fight what are seen as tougher challengers such as David Benavidez.

However, former world champion turned pundit Timothy Bradley believes there is only one man who could beat the Mexican and that is current super-welterweight champion and former two-weight undisputed king Terrence Crawford, as he told K.O. Artist Sports.

“Crawford’s a bad mama jamma, I don’t care how you look at it. We can sit here and say he can’t beat Canelo or can’t beat Boots. I think it’s an extremely tough fight but I still think that Crawford can get it done. Out of any other fighter in the game outside of Bivol, I think Crawford is the only guy who can give him problems, still, even after seeing the Madrimov fight.

The weight definitely concerns me taking a punch from a bigger puncher like that especially Canelo who will land it has you second-guessing yourself cause all it takes is one. However, someone as dedicated as Crawford, who brings the skills, the mentality, the tenacity, bro, I give him a damn good chance of upsetting the apple cart.”

Crawford’s last fight was his first at 154lbs and though he didn’t put on his usual dazzling knockout performance against Israil Madrimov, he did warm into the fight and ran away with the later rounds to become a world champion in the division at the first time of asking.

As enticing as a fight with ‘Canelo’ might be, it currently seems unlikely according to Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh. Despite that, Crawford looks set to hold out for it rather than face anyone else.
