Tim Bradley Names The Fighter Who ‘Ruined Boxing’: “It’s Pathetic”

Tim Bradley has become known for always speaking his mind when it comes to all things boxing.

The former super lightweight and welterweight champion had a fine career and avoided no one. Across 37 bouts, he won 33, 13 by stoppage, lost only twice, drew once and was never knocked out himself despite being in some hellacious battles with the likes of Manny Pacquiao three times, Ruslan Provodnikov, Juan Manuel Marquez, Jesse Vargas and Brandon Rios.

Speaking to Sean Zittel, the former fighter turned pundit spoke about how he thinks that Floyd Mayweather’s careful selection of opponents and fear of losing has had a lasting impact on the sport.

“Man, I said all the time, man, God honest truth, as good as Floyd Mayweather was, he somewhat ruined boxing man. I’m not going to lie. The mentalities of these fighters now.”

He had praise for ‘Money’ Mayweather but then claimed ‘Canelo’ is trying to repeat his trick of taking winnable fights late on in his career.

“Mayweather has done a lot for the sport but at the same time, man, I think he somewhat hurt the sport, I really do. His way of thinking, now everybody has adopted that. It’s pathetic, it’s wrong, and they have been lied to, they’ve been lied to, man, and Canelo’s trying to follow the same path, he’s trying to pick and choose. He feels like he’s on his way out, he’s trying to pick and chose his way out.”

Current undisputed super-middleweight star ‘Canelo’ has lost only twice, once to Mayweather early in his career, and once up at light heavyweight to the WBA champion Dimitry Bivol.

His next fight in September has not yet been announced and although many want it to be against former super middleweight champion David Benavidez, ‘Canelo’ has so far resisted those calls unless huge money is on the table.
