Hall of Famer Tim Bradley has finally spoken out after it was announced that Gervonta Davis would face Jake Paul next.
‘Tank’ had been initially pencilled in to rematch fellow countryman Lamont Roach Jr next, after their controversial first encounter back in March ended in a split decision draw with many fans and analysts expressing their frustration at this result.
Paul made his most recent ring appearance back in June, defeating Mexico’s former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr via unanimous decision at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, earning himself a world ranking with the WBA in the process.
Speaking on his own YouTube channel, two-weight world champion Bradley criticised the showdown, saying that it was a clear sign ‘Tank’ is close to done with boxing. He did, however, say it was dangerous for the champion.
“Yeah I mean the boy can power slap the hell out of you. You get in the ring with him, you gotta protect yourself at all times, but this gonna look weird man, this is gonna be super duper weird looking at frigging Gervonta Davis and having Jake Paul coming in there 40 pounds, 50 pounds heavier than him man.
“This don’t make no sense now, now look fugazi or not, this is dangerous for Tank, this dangerous. 40 pounds, 50 pounds or something like that, this is dangerous.”
Paul had been in contention to face two-time unified heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua before his bout with Davis was confirmed, although it has now been revealed that this fight fell through due to a number of issues that could not be resolved.
Instead, the 28-year-old from Cleveland faces a different kind of challenge, stepping into the ring with an unbeaten world champion who is known for his thunderous punching power.
