Saul ‘Canelo‘ Alvarez believes he has faced all-comers throughout his storied and Hall of Fame-worthy career, but many fans don’t agree.
The WBC number one contender in the super-middleweight ranks where Canelo holds all four belts is David Benavidez, and he has been extremely vocal about wanting his shot.
The Champion isn’t interested, or at least hasn’t been so far, saying Benavidez should be fighting at a higher weight before demanding $200 million for the fight to happen
Former world champion turned analyst Tim Bradley believes it’s the wrong attitude for someone considered the biggest star in the sport.
Speaking to KO Artist Sports, Bradley said Canelo should be accepting the challenge.
“Talking about Mexican pride. You don’t eve gotta be Mexican, you just gotta be a man, right. If you got another man coming in your house, coming in your sport, whatever you want to call it, and he’s calling your name. You’re the guy, you’re the cash cow, you’re the face of boxing, and you don’t answer that call? Bro that says something about you man. You supposed to stand up. You supposed to say ‘oh really? You think you better than me?'”
Bradley went on to question the Mexican’s pride in the situation.
“[Canelo] has proven himself enough, but Benavidez man, he’s disrespecting him, telling him to grow some balls, all of that. If you being Canelo Alvarez have any pride or dignity in you and your skills, I don’t care, step up and face that man, bro. Everybody around you is saying what the hell is going on?”
Benavidez recently made a successful debut at light-heavyweight but has made it clear he intends to move back down to continue to chase this fight. Canelo is expected to return later this year.
