Tommy Fury knows what it’s like fight Jake Paul and has now commented on his links to a contest with Anthony Joshua.
Fury fought Paul back in February 2023 in what was his ninth fight, while for Paul it was his seventh fight, having only turned professional three years before. Up to that point, he had only taken on ageing fighters and former MMA stars.
Although he had Fury down late, it was a close fight and he lost a split decision on the cards. Since then he has strung together six wins and beaten former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson who was almost twice his age at 57, and most recently another former world champion in Julio César Chávez Jr back in June.
Since then, he has linked himself with a fight with former unified heavyweight king Joshua, but it is a fight many think is too dangerous.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, that’s the view that Fury shared.
“If I can beat Jake Paul, then excuse my French, then what the f**k is ‘AJ’ going to do to Jake Paul. Even if ‘AJ’ had a broken arm in there, it still wouldn’t go past a minute. To be quite honest with you, as a safety aspect, there’s no way that fight can go ahead.
“How are we even talking about this? He got his nut boxed off by me a little over two years ago, and now all of a sudden he’s talking about beating Anthony Joshua. Come on, he can’t be serious. He can’t beat me, and I’m not Anthony Joshua, am I? It’s just ludicrous.”
Despite this, Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn has said that negotiations for the fight continue.
