Tommy Fury has spoken about the upcoming fight between his old foe Jake Paul and former WBC world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

Fury and Paul have a high-profile rivalry that has drawn plenty of attention from both the sports and entertainment worlds in recent years. They fought back in February 2023 and Fury, who was the more experienced boxer, was awarded a points win after controlling the contest with better fundamentals, although he was caught and put down in the final round.

Since then, Fury has been mostly out of the ring due to an elbow injury, but there has long been talk of a rematch.

Paul has gone on to fight and beat big names from the MMA world and, controversially, Mike Tyson. Next up, he takes on Chavez Jr, son of the legendary Mexican Julio Cesar Chavez, in a 10-round cruiserweight bout in California on June 28.

Speaking to Seconds Out, Fury said he would expect the 39-year-old Chavez Jr to win, though he admitted age is a factor.

“I don’t know, it is what it is, but put it this way, if I can box circles round him, a former world champion who’s done 12 rounds with Canelo Alvarez and many great champions, he should be able to do one better, shouldn’t he? But listen, age is a killer isn’t it. He’s fighting someone past his pomp, way past his pomp.”

Few in boxing are excited about this contest given how inactive Chavez Jr has been and after the struggles he has had outside the ring, with Bob Arum claiming that no matter the issues that may arise during the promotion, the fight will go ahead somehow.
