Tommy Fury hasn’t fought since a win over crossover boxing star KSI in October of 2023.
The points win saw Fury beat another big name on the influencer scene after defeating Jake Paul in a similar manner a year before. He had previously said he would then return to more traditional boxing in pursuit of a world title.
Surgery for a hand injury kept the Brit – half-brother to former heavyweight champion Tyson Fury – out of the ring throughout 2024. He signed to fight Darren Till in January of this year but later pulled out.
Now, the 25-year-old has his sights set on former UFC two-weight world champion Conor McGregor. The Irishman has had one pro boxing bout in the past, a loss to Floyd Mayweather, which generated an incredible amount of interest and money. He has recently been linked to YouTubers-turned-fighters Logan Paul, Jake Paul and KSI. Fury made his case on X, formerly Twitter.
“Conor McGregor, don’t waste your time with beaten fighters. Fight the man who’s beaten them all and still has his 0. I’ll be waiting.”
Given the fact that Fury recently pulled out of his fight with former UFC man Till due to the latter threatening to use MMA tactics come fight night – something Till has made clear was ‘mental warfare’ – fans were quick to reply to say Fury would do the same in the build-up to a McGregor fight.
One wrote “you literally ran from fighting Darren Till,” and another said “imagine what Conor’s mental games would do to you.”
Whether or not McGregor does make his return to the ring is unclear, and it may be a similar case to his long-awaited UFC comeback in that it will be long and drawn out. If he does want to lace up again, there are plenty of options from the crossover scene.
