James Toney Reveals How He Scored Manny Pacquiao vs Mario Barrios Fight: “He Won”

The dust continues to settle following Manny Pacquiao‘s draw with Mario Barrios earlier this month.

The Filipino boxing legend returned to the sport after four years away as he challenged Barrios for his WBC welterweight title at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on July 19.

There were a lot of concerns for Pacquiao heading into the bout, due to him now being 46-years-old and having not won a professional contest since back in 2019, but he proved a lot of doubters wrong by taking part in a competitive 12-round affair with Barrios.

A lot of onlookers even thought that ‘Pac-Man’ had done enough to claim the victory and become the new WBC welterweight champion, but it wasn’t to be, as the judges scored it 115-113 Barrios and 114-114 twice, meaning it ended in a majority draw.

A number of big names from the boxing world have already weighed in with how they scored the contest, and now three-weight world champion James Toney is the latest to do so.

Toney was widely regarded as one of the best fighters in the world during the 1990s, and during his illustrious career was able to win world titles at middleweight, super-middleweight and cruiserweight.

Speaking to ESNews, Toney revealed that he felt Pacquiao should have got his hand raised.

“I thought Pacquiao won. [He was] busier, he landed more shots. It’s the politics of boxing.”

Pacquiao has hinted he will continue boxing following his draw with Barrios, and may opt for a bigger name rather than a rematch with Barrios.
