David Benavidez could be in line to face Dmitry Bivol next.
Bivol became the undisputed light heavyweight champion on February 22 when he gained revenge on Artur Beterbiev and won their rematch by majority decision.
The fight came four months after their first meeting which was won by Beterbiev, with the same majority decision outcome and even the exact same scorecards as the second contest, though flipped.
Attention has now turned to who the new undisputed champion will face next, whether it will be the trilogy bout with Beterbiev, or if he will instead take on another contender.
One option could be a fight with WBC interim and WBA Regular champion Benavidez, who is first in line for two of the four belts held by Bivol.
Benavidez was last in action on February 1 when he defeated previously unbeaten David Morrell by unanimous decision in a statement light heavyweight performance.
One man that has now weighed in on a Bivol vs. Benavidez fight is boxing legend James Toney, who competed at 175lbs for a brief period of his career.
The three-weight world champion has made his prediction for the potential clash whilst speaking to Mill City Boxing, siding with ‘The Mexican Monster.’
“Benavidez, he’s busier and hits harder. He stops Bivol.”
Toney also claimed that Benavidez would defeat Beterbiev, but didn’t think it would be by stoppage.
“He hits harder than Beterbiev too but it would be a 12-round war with Beterbiev.”
