Hall of Fame great James Toney has shared his thoughts on a potential rematch between Terence Crawford and Canelo Alvarez.

‘Bud’ Crawford conquered Canelo in their historic encounter on September 13 to become the undisputed super-middleweight champion at a packed out Allegiant Stadium in Ls Vegas, Nevada.

The 38-year-old from Omaha put on arguably the best display of his professional career to date to defeat the Mexican superstar via unanimous decision, extending his unbeaten record to 42-0 in the process.

It has been speculated since the conclusion of their historic clash that the legendary duo could actually meet in a rematch at some stage in the near future, although it has been confirmed that Canelo did not have a rematch clause in his contract.

Speaking to Mill City Boxing, Toney backed Crawford to get the job done over Canelo once again if they do lock horns for a second time, as he claims he expects his countryman to ‘go for the kill’.

“I think Crawford, in my mind, if they fight a rematch, Crawford has a feel of how he [Canelo] fights now. He’s gonna set up a plan and go for the kill.”

Crawford is expected to take some time away from the sport before deciding what his next move will be. It has been suggested that the 38-year-old could be tempted by a move down to middleweight, as he bids to become a world champion in a sixth weight division.
