Tony Bellew is never one to shy away from giving his honest opinion and this time he’s let his feelings known about one particular heavyweight.
Boxing’s blue ribbon division has once again taken centre stage in the sport, with Oleksandr Usyk becoming the main man by defeating Tyson Fury in an enthralling back and forth encounter last weekend.
With the belts most likely to become fractured over the next 12 months the top contenders are jostling themselves to get in position for a shot at one.
On August 3 in Los Angeles former champion, Andy Ruiz Jr will take on Jarrell Miller, for what most are calling a must-win for both men if they want to remain in the heavyweight mix.
Miller suffered his first career defeat in his last outing, getting stopped by Daniel Dubois last December in a one sided contest. ‘Big Baby’ weighed in at a massive 333lbs, nearly 100lbs heavier than his opponent.
Speaking to DAZN Boxing about that fight, Bellew described Miller as “just a mattress with arms”.
“Baby Miller turned up mate and he was just a big mattress with arms. He was huge he was absolutely ginormous, he just absorbed everything. He’s the most durable mattress I’ve ever seen in my life.
He just absorbed everything. literally, the kitchen sink was thrown at him. Dubois had his own way all night, he really did.”
Bellew has been extremely critical of the Brooklyn native in the past because of his well-publicised failed doping tests.
Ruiz-Miller takes place on August 3 in Los Angeles on a card topped by Terence Crawford looking to become a four-weight world champion when he makes his super-welterweight debut against Israil Madrimov.
