There is still hope that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua may one day fight, and now Tony Bellew has given his prediction.

This is still one of the biggest fights that could be made in world boxing, let alone British boxing. The two UK rivals have long had concurrent careers but have not yet managed to get it on in the ring.

Both have ruled as champions for several years, but both were derailed by Oleksandr Usyk, twice.

Joshua first lost to the now two-time undisputed champion in 2021, then lost the rematch in 2022.

Up stepped ‘The Gypsy King’ in May 2024 to put his WBC belt on the line, but it was Usyk who came out on top after 12 rounds. They did it all again in December last year, and it was another points win for Usyk, this time unanimously.

After that, in January of this year, Fury announced his retirement.

Previously, Bellew has always thought that AJ would come out on top if the two were to ever meet in the ring.

“I’ve always said it and I’ll stick by it. I think Anthony Joshua will be forced to let his hands go and he’ll knock out Tyson Fury.

Do I think he’s the better fighter? No. But not always the better fighter wins. I’ve been in fights myself where I’ve beat fighters better than me, like David Haye. I beat him twice but he’s a better fighter than me. Styles make fight.”

However, in a recent interview with Coral, the former cruiserweight world champion has now changed his mind from previous answers.

“Wow, that’s a good question. On paper, now you’d have to say Tyson Fury.”

In recent weeks, Fury has suggested he is ready to return to the sport, though it is Usyk he has been calling out for a trilogy fight in April 2026. In the meantime, Joshua has not fought since being knocked out by Daniel Dubois last September. After that, he had minor elbow surgery and has been recovering this summer, though is expected to be back before the year is out.
