Tony Bellew has always kept a keen eye on boxing in all divisions.
The former WBO world cruiserweight champion is now a pundit with a famous love of the sport. He has often spoken of his respect for the likes of Roy Jones Jr and current greats such as Oleksandr Usyk who he lost to in an undisputed fight back in 2018.
Now he has been talking in the wake of a recent light heavyweight fight involving ‘The Mexican Monster’ David Benavidez and David Morell.
It was former two-time super-middleweight ruler Benavidez’s second fight up at the weight and he handed Morrell a points loss after a dominant display that was full of his usual relentless pessure.
Benavidez is still bedding in at the weight having moved up after being unable to lure Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez into what would have been a huge showdown at super-middleweight. Right now, it is expected ‘Canelo’ will instead be facing two-weight undisputed champion, Terence Crawford.
Posting on X, Bellew was full of praise for Benavidez’s most recent performance and backs him to beat anyone in the world.
“This was a quality fight! Benavidez is the real deal and I favour him against anyone in the world.. His output will pose everyone problems.. 👏 I hope to see him face the winner of Beterbiev Bivol! That’s the ultimate test imo..”
That fight between divisional greats Artur Beterbiev and Dimitri Bivol is a rematch of their undisputed contest back in October. It takes place on February 22 and Bivol will be hoping for revenge after using on points first time around.
