Tony Bellew is having a hard time believing that Anthony Joshua and Jake Paul will actually end up in the ring together.
He’s not the only one to think that, because there are several reasons why this contest is unlikely, if not dangerous. For one, Joshua is many inches taller and many pounds heavier than Paul, who has mostly fought at cruiserweight.
‘AJ’ is also vastly more experienced, having been a two-time unified world champion, sharing the ring with some divisional greats over the years, while Paul is more accustomed to MMA fighters crossing over and the likes of almost 60-year-old Mike Tyson.
Talking to iFL TV, former cruiserweight world champion Bellew expressed his shock at the contest happening.
“It’s insane, it’s madness, but no one can knock Josh cause it’s just madness. I can’t get my head around it. I just don’t believe he is going to be in the ring facing Joshua with 10z gloves on. When he touches him for the first time with a pair of 10oz gloves on, he is going to get the fright of his life.”
He was then asked if it was going to be an easy night for Joshua.
“I don’t understand how it can’t be. Of course, I get why it’s happening. Of course, For that kind of money you’d probably fight them both at once. Fair play to them, get paid. Once you’ve won the titles and your desires are fulfilled in boxing, boxing is purely about making as much as you can as quick as you can and this is ticking both them boxes off in one. Fair play.”
However, he then reiterated that he doesn’t think it’s actually going to happen.
“I don’t believe he is going to get in that ring. I don’t. What do you want me to say, that I think he is, he’s going to give him a hell off a fight? He’s not.”
Joshua has vowed to get this win and then move back to taking on more credible boxing opponents in 2026.
