Tony Bellew Has No Doubt Who Wins Carl Froch vs Joe Calzaghe: “I Hate To Say It”

Tony Bellew has had his say on the super middleweight fight between Carl Froch and Joe Calzaghe that never was.

This contest between the two British fighters has always been talked about as one that got away. Although both men fought at the same time, Froch was very much in the early stages of his career while Calzaghe was much more established, and eventually moved up to light heavyweight to become a two-weight world champion.

He famously beat every man he faced, including Jeff Lacy, Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr, before retiring with a record of 46 and 0.

He and Froch have long gone back and forth about why a fight between them never happened and who would have won.

Speaking on Froch on Fighting, Bellew told ‘The Cobra’ he would have fallen short against the Welshman.

“I don’t think you beat him, mate, as great as you were, I don’t think you beat him. I hate to say it cause I don’t like backing against friends. It’s a nightmare for anyone mate.”

Froch then asked if he would be outclassed.

“No one would ever be able to outclass you cause you’d always be in their face. You faced the best super middleweight of our era and you weren’t outclassed against Andre Ward and he is head and shoulders against anybody who even comes close.”

While ‘The Cobra’ is known for his durability and heart, Ward himself has also claimed that Calzaghe’s slick footwork and high punch count would likely have been too much for Froch.
