Tony Bellew has shared his thoughts on a potential clash between Carl Froch and former UFC star Darren Till.
Former unified super-middleweight champion Froch could be on the verge of making a sensational return to the ring after he was called out by Till just moments after the 32-year-old knocked out Luke Rockhold in the third round of their bout in Manchester this past weekend.
Till, known as ‘The Gorilla’, has had a positive start to his boxing career since crossing over from MMA earlier this year, winning all three of his professional bouts under the Misfits Boxing banner. The Rockhold stoppage was particularly brutal, and Till took his moment post-fight to approach Froch, who had been watching from ringside.
Froch has been in retirement since he defeated George Groves in their much anticipated rematch at Wembley Stadium back in May of 2014, ending his professional career with a record of 33-2.
Speaking to Sporting Talk, former WBC cruiserweight champion Bellew shared his thoughts on the potential match-up between ‘The Cobra’ and Till.
“I don’t think it’s a fair playing field in a boxing ring if I’m being totally honest. I mean, Carl’s a former world champion … Froch, he was a force to be reckoned with so if it’s in a boxing ring I don’t think that’s very fair on Darren, but if them two were to meet in a dark alley somewhere I don’t think Carl’s coming out the same guy.”
In the aftermath, Froch said that the fight is now something he will consider. The promotion has made it clear that they want to make it happen, and Till appears all in.
