Chris Eubank Jr. will welcome Conor Benn to the middleweight ranks this April when the pair settle a rivalry that has been brewing since 2022.
Failed drugs tests on Benn’s part cause the initial fight date to be scrapped, but a National Anti Doping Agency hearing late last year saw a provisional suspension lifted and gave him the green light to reschedule his grudge match with Eubank.
The pair will face off at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with the likes of Liam Smith, Chris-Billam Smith, Viddal Riley and Chev Clarke on the undercard.
Speaking on Froch on Fighting in late 2023, host and Hall of Fame fighter Carl Froch put it to Tony Bellew that Eubank would have the beating of Benn, a prediction he stands by to this day. Bellew, however, went the opposite way and backed the younger man.
“Disagree. He’s a big lad but we need to see Conor back first in a normal fight and see how the years have affected him … [He’s] too quick, too explosive. I just think he beats him … Explosive, powerful, quick. Conor Benn is one of those, you’re probably going to have to knock him out. He’s going out on his shield”
Benn has fought twice in the States against Rodolfo Orozco and Peter Dobson – both at the super-welterweight limit – winning each by unanimous decision.
In the time since the first fight collapsed, Eubank was served the first KO loss of career by Liam Smith but avenged the defeat in the same manner eight months later. His latest outing was in October of 2024 when he stopped Poland’s Kamil Szeremeta.
