Conor Benn put on the performance of his career so far to secure revenge over Chris Eubank Jr in their rematch.
Eubank struggled with the output and tempo that Benn had set throughout the 12-round middleweight bout, suffering the fourth defeat of his professional career in the process.
It has been suggested that Eubank, who recently turned 36-years-old, could now decide to announce his retirement from the sport instead of pursuing a trilogy match-up with Benn or a potential showdown with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez.
Speaking on the DAZN broadcast, former world cruiserweight champion Tony Bellew shared his thoughts on Eubank’s performance, saying that he doesn’t believe he should raw the curtain on his career just yet.
“I gave him 1, maybe 2 rounds at the most. He got out-jabbed and out-worked and bullied. It was down to the tenacity, speed, gameplan, all of the things came …. I don’t think he’s done. He’s come up tonight against a boy that wanted to have a boxing match with him. My point from day one is that Eubank Jr is a better fighter than a boxer. Benn has shown me a different game plan, and can keep his temperament in place, and can box. He used the speed and all the attributes he has to his advantage, and Eubank Jr couldn’t deal with it. I haven’t seen Eubank outboxed that well since [George] Groves and Billy Joe [Saunders].”
As for Benn, the 29-year-old has confirmed that he plans to drop back down to 147lbs ahead of his next outing, as he sets his sights on pushing towards a shot at a version of the world welterweight title in the near future.
