The boxing world never sits still for long, and Tony Bellew has been looking ahead to the next era.

Today’s champion can become old overnight, and the next stars of the sport can emerge after one good performance.

The heavyweight division in particular is one that has more eyes on than most, which is why the arrival of new talent can be so hyped and why a loss can often be over-dramatised as the end of a career.

Bellew is a keen student of boxing’s past, a world champion in his fighting days and now a busy analyst. As such, he has recognised who could dominate in the top division in the future.

A post on X saw Bellew lavishing praise on young heavyweight hopeful Moses Itauma, not just for his boxing skills, but also his ‘level-headed’ mentality.

“Very impressed listening to Moses Itauma on TalkSPORT he’s level headed and is a very good prospect… At 19 years of age I think this young man could be the future of the division!”

Young Brit Itauma has also drawn high praise from Hall of Famer Barry McGuigan and has already had great experience sparring the likes of Tyson Fury, Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua. He has put together a string of impressive highlight-reel knockouts in many of his early fights and has a current record of 9 wins from 9 fights with 7 coming by knockout.

His aim from early on was to become the youngest ever world heavyweight champion and take the record off Mike Tyson who was just 20, and though time is running out for him to accomplish that, he does look likely to one day have a major belt around his waist.

Itauma is back in action this weekend on July 27 when he takes on the challenge of Mariusz Wach on the undercard of Joe Joyce vs Derek Chisora in London.
