Former world champion turned boxing pundit Tony Bellew is talking up the prospects of a heavyweight he thinks deserves a world title shot.
Getting the chance to claim one of the four major belts is the reason fighters enter the ring, but the path to the top can be much more difficult than simply winning fights.
Politics, promotional issues and rematches can all hold up a fighter’s journey towards supremacy in any division.
Bellew himself managed to get his world title shot in 2016 at the home of his beloved Everton FC and it was a rather fairytale story in which he was knocked down early but managed to turn things around and beat Ilunga Makabu by KO in front of a vast and partisan crowd.
In a new post on X, Bellew has now replied to a message about Joseph Parker working hard in the gym with a call for him to get another chance at the belts.
“Gotta be a world title shot next!! HAS TO BE!!”
Parker was the WBO world champion after beating Andy Ruiz JR back in 2016 but surrendered his title on points to Anthony Joshua in 2018. In the last year or so he had proven himself to be one of the form men in the division having beaten both fearsome American puncher Deontay Wilder and huge Chinese heavyweight star Zhilei Zhang on points.
Dubois will be making a voluntary defence of the belt having beaten Anthony Joshua as his mandatory challenger back in August.
