Tony Bellew believes there’s only one man who has a chance against Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk is history’s first-ever two-time undisputed heavyweight champion and is also a former undisputed cruiserweight ruler.
He has beaten every man put in front of him, including three heavyweights who stand much taller than him in Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois, all of whom he has beaten twice since 2021.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting, Bellew gave Usyk his flowers before explaining who he thinks could challenge him in the future – Moses Itauma.
“I hope he walks away with his head held high. I’d hate to see time beat that man. Everyone laughed at me for saying he’d beat Fury not once but twice. He’s on another level.
The only match for him that could cause trouble and I know he’s not ready now, is Moses Itauma. He’s the only fighter I believe. But you can’t throw him in with Usyk when he hasn’t been past six rounds, it’s unfair to the lad. To be fair to him, that’s one thing his promoter has been brilliant with is whole career.”
On his last outing, the highly ranked Itauma put on his best display yet when he stopped former world title challenger and famously tough heavyweight Dillian Whyte. He did so inside the first two minutes, meaning he has now stopped 11 of his 13 opponents inside the first two rounds.
He is set to return in December this year, but as of yet has not been able to find an opponent. Although he himself said he was ready for Usyk after his last fight, he is not yet likely to get thrown in quite that deep, with David Adeleye and Michael Hunter the latest to be linked.
