Oleksandr Usyk is undoubtedly the best heavyweight in the world right now.
The 37-year-old handed Tyson Fury his first career defeat back in May when the two battled it out to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion since Lennox Lewis nearly 25 years ago.
The fight was a thrilling back and forth encounter where both men enjoyed periods of success, but it was the former cruiserweight champion who got the nod on the scorecards after a huge 10-8 score in round nine where he had Fury out on his feet.
The two will battle it out once more this year after ‘The Gypsy King’ activated his rematch option.
Speaking to Eddie Hearn on his Club Bellew podcast, former Usyk opponent Tony Bellew was alarmed by some of the Ukrainian’s pre fight talked but still believes the only man who can beat him is Usyk himself.
“Was it not alarm bells ringing when he said how hard camp was and they said who beats Oleksandr Usyk, and it’s mad cause he’s repeating the words I’m saying, but he said the only person beats who beats him is him.”
Ahead of the rematch, Bellew believes it will be repeat rather than revenge and says Usyk will go down as one of the best ever.
“Based on the last performance, no, you can’t make a call for that. But has he got a chance? 100%.
Oleksandr Usyk. What a guy, what a man. The greatest cruiserweight, and let me tell you he’ll go down as one of the greatest heavyweights as well.”
Usyk-Fury 2 takes place on December 21 in Saudi Arabia.
