Jake Paul is soon to fight Julio Cesar Chavez Jr and Tony Bellew is certain on who will have his hand raised.

Chavez Jr is a former WBC middleweight world champion though has often lacked heart and dedication in the ring. He held the title for a year and a half from 2011 when he beat John Duddy and racked up five defences before losing to Sergio Martinez.

In recent times, he has fought and lost to 50-year-old MMA star Anderson Silva and often drawn criticism for his performances, as well as issues outside of the ropes. He beat former MMA star Uriah Hall last time out to set up this clash.

Paul has now won 11 of his 12 fights, with one loss against Tommy Fury and wins against a 58-year-old Mike Tyson, as well as former UFC fighters like Nate Diaz and Mike Perry

In a post on X, Bellew explained why he thinks Paul will get a straightforward win against the son of the legendary former three-division ruler, Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.

“I can’t believe I’m writing this but I am! He’s going to beat Chavez up. Chavez in his pomp was a very good fighter with some very good wins on his resume. He no longer loves or live the game and that’s why he’s lost to the likes of Anderson Silva! I think Jake wins on points. Stoppage would be impressive, in my opinion.”

Bellew then doubled down on his criticism of Chavez when a fan criticised the matchmaking.

“[It] ain’t really on Jake Paul this one, it’s all on Chavez! He’s embarrassing real fighters if he loses. He carries an absolute icon’s name! He needs to take better care of it and only fight when he’s willing to take it seriously.”

Former opponent Perry also believes that Paul could come out on top when the pair face each other in Anaheim this Saturday.
