Tyson Fury raised eyebrows recently by saying that he lost to Oleksandr Usyk because he found the bout ‘too easy.’
In the minds of fans and analysts, it was the Brit’s hardest night at the office. After finding good success in the middle rounds, Fury’s nose was bloodied in the eighth. With vision impaired, he was punched around the ring in the ninth and took a count from the referee after slumping into the corner.
Now undisputed champion, Usyk will give Fury a rematch later in the year. According to ‘The Gypsy King’ it will be a simple win, recently stating facing the Ukrainian was like being in the ring with ‘a local amateur.’
Former cruiserweight world champion and Usyk opponent, Tony Bellew, told The Stomping Ground he didn’t get the comparison.
“I don’t quite understand that one, he’s an amateur boxer yet he couldn’t get a decision? It’s a a twelve, three minute round fight not an amateur bout so that doesn’t really make the most sense.
I thought he pushed Usyk really hard, I think Usyk was the clear winner but I thought he pushed him really really hard. Possibly the hardest he’s ever been pushed, actually i don’t know because the second AJ fight he was pushed to the brink and after nine rounds I had AJ up by one and then he turns it on in the championship rounds.”
Bellew went on to praise the man who knocked him out in what would be his final pro fight, telling Fury there was only one hope for victory.
“I thought Usyk was always going to win it and he actually won in a manner that i didn’t see him doing, he pressed the fight and bullied the big man. I think if he fights him in the rematch and goes on the back foot he’ll win nearly every single round in a really ugly fight.
If Usyk chooses to go on the back foot you will not get near him, you only get near him when he wants you to get near him. He dictates from the word go, he bullied Tyson Fury, it’s nuts, I don’t know what Tyson Fury was watching but he was getting pushed back all night long, it’s madness to think.
Usyk will beat anyone in a boxing match, nobody is going to outbox him, you have to get close to him and nail him, rough him up, you have to bully him.”
Usyk and Fury are set to run it back on December 21 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
