Tony Bellew has been musing over a potential clash between Moses Itauma and Oleksandr Usyk.
Right now, it seems as though no one is going to beat Usyk, the undisputed cruiserweight turned two-time undisputed heavyweight who has now twice beaten Anthony Joshua, Tyson Fury and Daniel Dubois.
One man tipped to be a heavyweight star of the future is Itauma, who both Fury and Usyk have hyped up before now, despite the fact he is just 20 years old and has still only had 12 fights.
He has won them all in impressive fashion, however, with KO victories inside the first two rounds in his last three contests against Mariusz Wach, Dempsey McKean and Mike Balogun.
Speaking to Sporting Talk, Bellew reacted to the idea of Itauma fighting Usyk right now.
“I think that’s a dreadful fight for Moses Itauma, the boy’s not been past six rounds, I don’t think.”
The former cruiserweight champion believes it is too soon for the young rising star.
“To throw this kid into the wolves at this stage so early in his career, I just don’t get what for. He’s a young man, let him develop the same as every other fighter, let him learn his trade.”
Itauma takes a huge step up in his next fight when he takes on Dillian Whyte in August. ‘The Bodysnatcher’ is a former world title challenger who has mixed it with the likes of Joshua, Fury and Derek Chisora, so presents him with plenty of new challengers. Should Itauma overcome them, he will take a huge step towards proving his many backers right.
