Tony Bellew has heaped praise on one fighter, banding him as ‘unbeatable’.
Bellew had 34 fights across his career and he won 30 of them, including 20 by knockout, with just one draw and three losses.
The Liverpudlian turned pro in 2007 and had plenty of heated rivalries across the course of his career, not least with Welshman Nathan Cleverly who he fought twice. The first time he lost a majority decision in 2011, the second time he avenged the defeat in 2014 with a split decision win.
He famously struggled against Adonis Stevenson at light heavyweight after being seriously weight drained going into the contest in Quebec City in 2013 and was stopped inside six rounds.
He moved up to cruiserweight after that and had a fine run of wins against Valery Brudov and Mateusz Masternak before picking up the WBC world cruiserweight title by stopping Ilunga Junior Makabu in the third round at the home of his beloved Everton FC.
More wins came against BJ Flores and David Haye, twice, up at heavyweight before ending his career with a fine showing but ultimately unsuccessful attempt to become undisputed cruiserweight belts against Oleksandr Usyk, who stopped him inside eight rounds in 2018 and soon rematches Tyson Fury to defend his status as unified heavyweight king.
In a post on X, it wasn’t Usyk that Bellew named as unbeatable, but instead multi-weight champion Roy Jones Jr.
“Nobody is beating the RJJr that dominated light heavyweight’s and beat John Ruiz, full stop.”
Jones held world championships across four weight classes, including titles at middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight, and heavyweight and is regarded by many as one of the best to ever do it.
