Tony Bellew has been out of the ring since a 2018 loss to Oleksandr Usyk, hanging up the gloves on an impressive and thrilling campaign.

The Liverpool native won the WBC Cruiserweight World title at his beloved Goodison Park, beat David Haye twice in a bitter rivalry and called it a day with a 30-3-1 record.

Despite comfortably sitting in the punditry chair now, Bellew briefly considered a comeback against former WBC Bridgerweight World Champion Lukasz Rozanski. The Polish pro instead fought and lost to Lawrence Okolie.

Another man that seems to get Bellew’s juices flowing is controversial YouTuber turned pro boxer, Jake Paul. In response to a video of Paul claiming he ‘runs the sport’, Bellew warned the 27-year-old he should stick to facing MMA fighters.

“Please mate come on! You don’t run boxing! You’ve faced one legitimate boxer and lost! If you face any champion from British to European level you’ll get starched! You wouldn’t stand a chance against me and I’m 41 years old, a tub of lard! Do us favour and just keep fighting MMA fighters!”

Paul has a 9-1 record in the sport with the one loss being to Tommy Fury – the only opponent fans consider to be a legitimate boxer. This weekend he added another win by knocking out former UFC man and current bare knuckle boxer Mike Perry.

Bellew went on to say that he would finish the controversial figure in one round but that it was ‘a pointless debate’ because of how Paul is matched.

“I have no desire to go back to camp tbh! I’d probably need 3 weeks and 2 spars and that would be see him last the whole of 1 round tops.”

“He’s never ever gonna face anyone of any note… it’s a pointless debate. I can’t believe he was targeting the iconic Mike Tyson! It made me so angry to be honest.”

Bellew’s anger is unlikely to subside given Paul will face ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson on November 15 after the bout was previously postponed by the former undisputed heavyweight champion on medical grounds. That paved the way for Paul to beat Perry and get people talking once more.
