Tim Tszyu has slammed Errol Spence Jr after the former unified welterweight champion dismissed the Australian as a serious challenge.
Former WBO world light-middleweight champion Tszyu made his return to action on Sunday as he defeated Denis Nurja by unanimous decision at the conclusion of their 10-round clash at the WIN Entertainment Centre in Wollongong, Australia.
It was revealed back in February that Spence would make his long-awaited return to action after nearly three years against Tszyu this June, although an official announcement is yet to be made.
‘The Truth’ has been inactive since he suffered the first defeat of his professional career to Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford back in July 2023, losing the bout via ninth round stoppage and falling short in his attempt at becoming the undisputed welterweight champion in the process.
In response to a social media post made by Spence regarding the upcoming battle, Tszyu claimed that the American star is in for a ‘hard fight’ ahead of their intriguing match-up this summer.
“Oh man, he’s got no idea. He’s got no idea. He’s gonna be in for a hard, hard fight, you know, because a style like me, it always presents challenges to a lot of people.”
It had been suggested that Spence would take a warm-up fight ahead of his clash with Tszyu, but it appears that the 36-year-old’s next ring appearance will come against Tszyu, whose only career defeats have come against Sebastian Fundora and Bakhram Murtazaliev, two of the very best light-middleweights on the planet.
