Tunde Ajayi, trainer of Anthony Yarde, responds to critics of his own performance during the fight with Sergey Kovalev
Anthony Yarde ostensibly exceeded most people’s expectations yet his head trainer still drew a huge amount of criticism. In taking the vastly more experienced Sergey Kovalev into the 11th session in August, having almost stopped the Russian in round eight, Yarde announced himself as a world-level operator, after a total of just 31 fights, amateur and pro.
Through it all, trainer Tunde Ajayi has been by Yarde’s side. Here he and assistant Ade Olayinka respond to criticism that he did not offer sensible advice in the corner and that he failed to pull an exhausted Yarde out at the right time.
