Turki Alalshikh Says Canelo Alvarez vs Terence Crawford Will Only Happen Under One Condition

Canelo Alvarez potentially taking on Terence Crawford appears to have been given a lifeline.

Canelo is the reigning unified super-middleweight world champion having most recently defended his belts against Edgar Berlanga in September.

The Mexican superstar is expected to return to the ring in May for his usual Cinco de Mayo date, but as of now there doesn’t appear to be a standout opponent that he will be taking on.

One fighter that a lot of fans would love to see him face is Crawford, the reigning WBA super-welterweight champion after he stepped up from welterweight and defeated Israil Madrimov in August.

Despite the big weight difference between the two, Crawford has made it clear he would jump up to 168lbs for the fight against Canelo.

Saudi chief Turki Al-Alshikh was happy to negotiate the bout earlier this year, but pulled the plug after Canelo said he wouldn’t discuss it prior to his showdown with Berlanga.

Al-Alshikh has now seemingly opened the door for it again, telling DAZN the one way the fight can potentially be made.

“I don’t know anyone now from the Canelo teams and I don’t have any connection, but if he’s hearing me. I’m ready to discuss but I want to discuss me and him directly without anyone in the middle.”

Time will now tell whether the potential Canelo vs. Crawford fight will be revived, but Alvarez has recently been criticised by another fighter for allegedly turning down 70 million dollars to face an undefeated former world champion.
