Undefeated World Champion Announces Long Awaited Return: “The Comeback Is Always Stronger”

It’s been nearly two years since one of America’s brightest stars was last in action.

The USA has been experiencing a lull in the premier weight classes as of late, with less than five Americans currently holding world titles from heavyweight to super-welterweight.

One man that will be looking to change those fortunes in the near future is someone who has already been a world champion at 154lbs and 160lbs in his career, the undefeated Jermall Charlo.

Along with his brother Jermell, Jermall Charlo was a serious force to be reckoned with in boxing, but inactivity has stalled his career in recent years.

His last world title defence came in June 2021 when he defeated Juan Macias Montiel to retain his WBC middleweight title, though he did have a non-title bout against Jose Benavidez in November 2023.

Charlo hasn’t fought since that bout, and was stripped of his belt in June last year following a DWI arrest and well-documented mental health issues. He will finally return at 168lbs in May, when he takes on Thomas Lamanna.

With his first fight in over a year now set, Charlo insists that he is back on track as he looks to become world champion again.

“I took the time to rebuild myself and I rebuilt my focus. I’m locked in with my team and I’m ready for this new chapter at super middleweight. The journey continues. I’m back in full effect and I can’t wait to show my fans what I’ve been working on. It’s time!

Also on that card will be former IBF super-middleweight champion Caleb Plant, going up against Armando Resendiz, with a fight between Plant and Charlo expected to take place later this year provided that both men are victorious.
