Tyson Fury’s promoter Frank Warren has confirmed that his man will once again square off against Oleksandr Usyk later this year.

Fury and Usyk battled it out over an enthralling 12 round contest in which the Brit seemed comfortable until round 7 before the Ukrainian turned the tide and scored a knockdown on the way to a razor thin split decision victory.

With the clash as close and exhilarating as it was, there won’t be many fans upset about the prospect of seeing the two battle it out once again.

It was public knowledge that a rematch clause was in place before the first encounter and, unless one man retired, a second fight was all but guaranteed.

After speculation that Fury could possibly hang up the gloves, Warren confirmed to Box Nation that ‘The Gypsy King’ “badly” wants to run it back.

“As far as I’m concerned Tyson has been one of our best fighters and that fight was so close and now everybody is saying, quite rightly in their view, that Usyk is the best and I get that and I understand that and there is going to be a rematch.

The rematch will be in October, Tyson confirmed that yesterday. I told him to really think about it before he did it, but he wants it and he wants it badly and that’s where we are.”

In a further interview with iFL TV, Warren also added that Fury “knows he has the beating” of Usyk.

“He wants the rematch, he said ‘I want it, get it on, I know I have the beating of him’.”

Usyk vs Fury 2 is set to take place in Saudi Arabia this October.
