Tyson Fury has been down several times in his career but has always got back up.
Most famously he was on the canvas multiple times in his epic trilogy with American knockout artist Deontay Wilder between 2018 and 2022. The first fight in particular saw Fury, who was still very much on the comeback trail after several years out due to mental health issues, hit the canvas hard in the 12th and final round. He managed to rise up in iconic fashion and push Wilder back for the rest of the round to take a controversial draw before then stopping his man in the next two contests.
Fury also found himself on the canvas rather shockingly when he faced MMA star and boxing debutant Francis Ngannou in October of last year, but again managed to rally and take a points win after 10 rounds.
In his most recent fight, Fury was given a 10 count against Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed contest though never actually hit the deck, and this time failed to turn things around so was handed his first professional loss.
Speaking on the Out of Interest Podcast, however, Fury recalled messaging Derek Chisora after the most recent of their three faiths back in December 2022. Fury won all three but, although he never looked in danger of being knocked down, admitted feeling like he has ‘been run over by a train’.
“I remember texting Derek and I said ‘I feel like I’ve been run over by a train, so you must feel like you’ve been dropped out of a plane.”
Fury will be back in action in December when he rematches Usyk, trying to avenge his only loss and regain three of the four major world heavyweight titles in Saudi Arabia.
