Tyson Fury knows better than anyone what it is like to be on the receiving end of punches from Deontay Wilder.

These two former heavyweight world champions have shared three fights together, with 11 knockdowns spread across the trio of contests.

The first was a controversial draw that many thought Fury should have won, despite being put down hard in the 12th round. The second and third fights were brutal battles in which Fury came out with KO victories, having taken the fight to the Alabama man. Though he dominated the second affair, he was put down twice in the third before scoring the stoppage.

Since then, Wilder has failed to recapture his early career form and, after a straightforward win against Robert Helenius, has lost on points to Joseph Parker and been stopped by Zhilei Zhang in his last fight back in June 2024.

Speaking to Foxify in the wake of their trilogy, Fury was asked to comment on the power carried by Wilder and summed it up as ‘dynamite in his fists.’

“I had three fights with that guy and all three times it could’ve been curtains for me at any single second. “Deontay Wilder has dynamite in his fists and if he lands on you, whether it’s round one or round 12, he’s going to knock you down or knock you out … I think my sheer size and weight has a lot to do with him not being able to knock me out cold.”

Despite the threat posed, Fury has more recently advised his former foe to retire. It is unwelcome and unheeded advice.

‘The Bronze Bomber’ will be back in the ring later this month when he takes on the heralded Tyrrell Herndon in a must-win fight if he has any real hopes of getting back to the top of the world rankings.
